This is the general flow for any time I use the internet on my phone.
- Go to website
- Realise its a mobile view of the website
- Go to options and request the desktop version
- Use website successfully with no problems
I thought I'd go online to try and find an article that would back up my view that mobile websites are rubbish, yet there seems to be very little on the subject. I don't understand why.
Responsive design can be done well but most of the time it isn't. The page looses the same appearance as the desktop and in some cases even functionality is gotten rid of so that the website can deal with the size restraints.
Pinching is such an easy zoom functionality (for most people) that maybe we should think about mobile devices being no different to their desktop counterparts.
Tasks generally took longer to complete on the mobile websites, although not always. All the pinching and scrolling takes its toll. While not all tasks take longer, many tasks took around twice as long on the mobile website.
